Welcome to Name that Book 3 - 6 for 2018-2019

Today all of the books were announced for next year's contest.  I am looking forward to a summer of fun reading and I hope you are as well.   The list is the 20 Bluebonnet books plus 5 more.  So let's look at one of those books.

Amina’s Voice

by Hena Khan

The following link gives you some information about the book as well as some fun activities to try.

As I thought about this book I remembered when I decided to change my name.  It was not such a drastic change as I only went from a childhood nickname to my real first name.  However, it did cause quite a bit of confusion for all the people that had known me by the first name.  Have you ever wanted to change your name?

Another theme of this book is how Amina deals with feeling left out when her best friend begins to be friends with another girl.  That is very tough.  Also, it makes you question things about yourself and if there are areas where you are different from those around you, it can be even more difficult.  When some of the scary things happened in her neighborhood, that really made this challenging.  These are some painful things that happen to almost everyone at some time.  We all question our value.  But, as we deal with it, we grow.  Do you think Amina will be the same after this book?  What things will be stronger?  How do you think her relationship with Soojin will change?  Will it be stronger?  Will they still be best friends?

What is your favorite quote from the book?  Share your thoughts in the comments section.

If you are a student in Houston ISD, and, if you would like to be a guest blogger and share your thoughts about one of the books, please email me at mminer@houstonisd.org .  I will post the ones that I think are really great.  I will use your initials and your school name, so be sure to include those.  Hopefully we can have some fun with the books this summer and next school year.
